The Charism of the Congregation is centered in the love and service of those we are called to serve. The sisters living out their charism as a faithful service to God with committed zeal, hence our charismatic watchwords are LOVE, SERVICE, FAITH and ZEAL.

The mission of the Congregation is to give human and Christian educational counselling services to the youths with particular attention to those in the Universities and other tertiary institutions.

The specific and distinct apostolate of the congregation is the pastoral ministry of the church to youths (leaders of tomorrow) in order to promote their sanctification and salvation. To help them fully experience the infinite love of God and so be able to share that love with others in their day-to-day relationships and interactions. To alleviate their problems and hardships within the universities and higher institutions. The apostolate is carried out through various dimensions of counselling including pastoral counselling, career counselling, family counselling, peer group counselling, emotional counselling etc.

Elements of our life

Mediation

Work

The University Sisters of Assumption are dedicated to fulfilling the divine design of the Creator and participating in Christ’s redemptive work, embracing their vocation with zeal and devotion.

Prayer

The prayer life of the sisters is rooted in the Holy Scriptures and in other liturgical exercises of the church which includes Celebration of the Holy Eucharist, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Divine Office, Sacrament of Reconciliation, Meditation, Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and other approved devotional prayers of the church among others. The congregational prayer maxim is STAY WITH US LORD JESUS, NOW AND FOREVER. Through the maxim, the sisters pray for the continuous presence of Jesus Christ believing strongly that we can do nothing on our own but with Jesus in us, we can do great things for His own glory and the happiness of the people of God. The maxim is simply the symbol of the active presence of our divine spouse in our lives, in the lives of our students and in the lives of those around us. It helps the sisters to be ever sensitive to that active presence thereby disposing us to offer our divine spouse the highest level of divine intimacy through divine submission of our wills to the divine will.

Liturgy

The Sisters meet in the morning and in the evening, to meditate and to celebrate the Liturgy of the Hours (Divine Office) in union with the praise and continual intercession of the Church. The sisters also organize different forms of prayer by which to express the life of their Community (Can 663; 3, Can 1173-1175; Perf. Car. No. 6). The Lauds, Vespers and Compline are well prepared, allowing sufficient time for it, recited slowly, or sung well. Members share their petitions and reflections. We give outward expression to our prayer and also share the deeper reflection which silence makes possible (Col 3:16-17; CCC No. 25, 89; Vat 11 Sacrosantum Concilium No. 83, 84; Vat 11 S.C.R.
